Walkin' Dog

I'm not sure if anybody is working on this since we didn't make a post, and it was really just an idea between Randal and I... but hey! I've been working on making a dog walk! I originally started with the Nico rig (this one), but decided to go with something simpler for the sake of learning.

Anybody have time to give it a look?

  1. Nice man, and that Nico rig looks cool too, I've never seen it before.

As for your animation, I love the tail, the ears you could offset though.

I haven't look at enough dog walks to be an expert, but there are a couple things that bug me. If you look at his front-right leg, it pops a bit fast on the way up. His back-right leg, could be just me but I think it's landing too far forward.

    What you think?

  2. Hi Jeff!

Yeah, Nico is pretty awesome, the rigging of it is fantastic. The back legs on it bug me though, they don't seem natural. It almost looks as if he's always squatting while he walks.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback. I've been working on that "pop" on the front leg, but it's tricky. It reminds of the knee pop on a human walk cycle- it's really hard to get smooth.

I'm not sure about the back leg, I was really just going by the references I've got. In my books the back leg goes forward even more, but in live action it doesn't go quite as far. I'll try playing around with it some more to see how it looks.

Thanks a bunch for the feedback Mr. Sudbury!
